About Chichester

Chichester is an incredible, historic city, and the county town of West Sussex.
Nestling between the beautiful South Downs to the north, and the coast only six miles to the south, it is ideally placed as an attractive and desirable residential area.
It is located close to other important cities, such as Brighton (to the east), Portsmouth (to the west) and London (70 miles to the north).
Other nearby population centres include; Horsham, Crawley, Bognor Regis, Worthing, Littlehampton, Midhurst, Pulborough and Arundel.
Chichester has long been considered to be one of the finest places to live in the entire UK, with all the convenience offered by superb, modern shopping facilities and well-developed transport links to the capital and the south coast, as well as a compact size, relatively small population and easy access to some of the prettiest countryside around.
The city is no slouch when it comes to entertainment and culture, with wonderful restaurants and cafes, and world-class venues such as the Chichester Festival Theatre and the recently renovated Pallant House Art Gallery (specialising in the display of modern and Pop art, and which has been mooted as being the best exhibition space outside London).
The area is also strong when it comes to the commercial world, with a number of major employers setting up bases close by, including Rolls Royce, Wiley Publishing, Cega Group, Chichester District Council and West Sussex County Council - there is also a staggering array of small businesses locally.
So much to see and do - and great for families!
The area is a good choice for families, with some excellent schools in the immediate vicinity, and a plethora of activities are available on land and sea (sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, horse riding and walking all spring to mind) - in fact, West Wittering, the closest local beach, has consistently been awarded for its beauty and cleanliness. Goodwood is also a stone's throw away, and offers everything from the internationally renowned Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting motorsport events, to Glorious Goodwood; one of the world's premier flat racing festivals.
Chichester (originally known as Noviomagus) dates back to Roman times, and was one of the first settlements chosen by the then invaders - it is also blessed with one of the finest Norman cathedrals in existence; the picturesque cobbled streets provide a resonant insight into the sheer history of the place. Much of the architecture in the centre of the city dates goes back to the Georgian era, and is impeccably maintained - all adding to the distinctive charm of the area.
